Tchaikovsky’s 6th, first mov’t changed my life. When I was in music school, during a period of intense grief, it brought me to tears, and reminded me why I pursued this profession in the first place. When it hits you like that it really is that good.

Haven’t seen the film yet and appreciate the implied metaphor. Hopeful that he, at the time, saw equal artistic value in both styles, something that very few can even do today.

Also, because many public schools in Texas offer excellent fine arts training, students from non-public schools can be at a disadvantage to either being exposed to the arts or, should they decide to pursue a fine arts career, during the college admissions process.
