If moving coke is part of a war, then the middlemen/recipients/buyers/users -- many American citizens -- are co-conspirators, and could be murdered at will. That's just ... the thinking of a madman.

This looks awful, but Simak wrote good stuff early on, including Way Station. He was one of the first authors that drew me to SF. (I am old.)

Bookers need to say “Are you familiar with x, y, and z? We’re looking for someone who can talk about them.” If they say yes then backpedal, play the tape. If they say no, don’t book them.

I remember reading "The Past That Would Not Die," a book about Meredith's enrollment in UM, by Walter Lord, who also wrote about the Titanic, the Battle of Midway, Dunkirk, and the Civil War. That man loved disasters -- and those who had the courage to rise above them.

When I lived in Arlington, VA in the '90s there were a ton of Vietnamese and Afghan restaurants, and I always told people "once they were exfiltrated, and their CIA paychecks dried up, they had to find something to do...." (I was speculating. I had no knowledge of any such cryptoculinary schemes...)
