I hope that this comparison to Wilson becomes more popular. He had a plan that he insisted upon, gave up everything to keep a sliver of it, and it failed. Also, he was a racist fool.
Trump has signed an executive order eliminating all funding for diversity and inclusion in the federal government, sending home DEI staff who will then be laid off. The historical echo for this is when Woodrow Wilson resegregated the federal government in 1913. We have reached the second nadir.

I love the books that librarians choose to put on end caps. Our local library had John Le Carre’s “Call for the Dead” out about two weeks ago. Picked it up on a whim and loved it. Now I’m three George Smiley books in. Great Cold War throwback.

Have I had my mind changed on social media? Yes - NOT by arguing with randoms, but by following experts and first hand folks who share what they do, what they think and what's going on. The change isn't binary - I used to think one thing, and suddenly now another - it's slow and additive: Learning.

Is it too uch to ask that my social media not be the chessboard that global powers play on?

The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.

Ok, here’s my rule. For every non-person I follow, I will follow 4 people. I think that’s what made the feed so odd last time - lack of people.

I was an early adopter on the other site and this feels so similar to that time. I’m looking at starter packs and thinking “oh, they’re here…. them, too.” It’s a nice feeling.
