We're not conceding to anyone.
They are ensuring the legitimacy of a citizen led petition by not getting politically involved.
The NDP officially supporting it would call into question the grassroots nature of the petition.

I do believe the Premier will sabatoge it so why give her the excuses? The more legit the petition is the more egg on her face when she interferes.
Just because the ABNDP isn't officially supporting it doesn't mean they don't support it. Every single NDP MLAs signature will be on that petition.

Keep in mind the Premier has the final say on any wording of a referendum question and if it even proceeds.
It would be an easy thing for her to use the ABNDP's involvement as an excuse to deny the question, even if they get the signatures, under the excuse of it not being a citizen led initiative
