Mostly retired after careers in strategic communications and public affairs in defense, intelligence and technology. U.S Navy veteran. Now spending time supporting and advocating for public libraries, and e-biking on rail trails and canal towpaths.
One of the best books I've read recently. Traffic engineers, says the author, almost always focus on moving as many cars as possible, as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Safety of drivers, passengers, pedestrians and bicyclists tends to be an afterthought. islandpress.org/books/killed...

I don’t personally know Rep. Nancy Mace or Rep. Sarah McBride, and I can’t say I’ve thoroughly researched their biographies or political views. But I’ve seen enough in recent days to say this: I am very grateful to be of the party of Sarah McBride, and not that of Nancy Mace.

Pete Hegseth has said that women should no longer have combat roles in the military. His comments reflect a broader tendency among Trump and his allies to treat every evolution in social norms as a DEI project gone awry, Juliette Kayyem writes:

Libraries feel like something about which we could very easily be saying, “Remember that place where you could borrow books, for FREE, and return them when you were finished?” And kids would say “What?? No way!” And yet there they still are, despite everything we’ve become, existing. Remarkable.

I’ve mentioned this before, but if you’re short on cash but have an urge to shop, go to your library digital apps and browse the books, audiobooks, movies, shoes, magazines. It works really well to give you the same feeling without spending the cash. (Plus you’re supporting public libraries.) 💙📚
