Jeremy Bartley, the attorney for ex-sheriff Shawn Stines, said a deposition in the separate federal case — an investigation of Stines’ office — was a piece of the story that led to the shooting that rocked the small EKY town of Whitesburg this past fall.

Former Letcher Co. Sheriff Shawn Stines, charged with murder, is set to appear at the courthouse in 30 minutes for arraignment in circuit court.

The question is if Judge Julia Adams will set a bond. Stines has been held without bond since his arrest in September.

Former Letcher Co. Sheriff Shawn Mickey Stines was indicted for murder Thursday.

The indictment was a procedural step, and didn’t offer any new information about the shooting of Judge Kevin Mullins.
