I am absolutely terrible at map creation but I really do need to do this at some point.

A project usually starts growing when I get a vivid image of a scene, usually the opening scene of the book. If it's overwhelmingly clear what the conflict of the scene is and who the character is, the project will start to grow until I know enough to write it.

Oh definitely! I’ll revisit after I get a different book out into the trenches and draft the sequel to my debut.
