In TaxonWorks you can extend many models with your own attributes- new buckets to put your stuff in. We sometimes use these buckets as a record of original values when we migrate in data.

Just what do we put in those buckets? A viz tool to explore is in testing.

While everyone is having fun @ #LivingData2025 we rolled out our AnatomicalPart model for testing. OWL anatomy ontology integration, multiple origins, source of extracts and sequences, and other parts. One of the last pillars of TaxonWorks 1.0.

Thanks Tom for implementing this coolness.

Welcome Miridae (and Reduviidae) to TaxonWorks! Comprehensive plant (and assassin) bug nomenclature with >44k names, distribution and host records are now imported. Christiane Weirauch, R. Toby Schuh and
Michael Schwartz lead the evolution of this decades long effort on these important #insects.

#Taxonomy is *very* collaborative, this is authorship of the stonefly family Perlidae. The Sankey viz illustrates the connection between authors as defined by both being involved in the authorship of a TaxonName. Dynamic report coming to TW soon.

Early experiments playing with Claude Code X TaxonWorks. Since we have some nice conventions in the code-base it very quickly was able to turn data into a classic #D3 Sankey plot, here linking taxon name authors to their fellow authors according to the number of times they worked together.

Released 0.54.0. Changelog: github.com/SpeciesFileG....

One stop configuration for serving DwCArchives via a single fixed endpoint (get your data to #GBIF without an IPT, fileserver, etc.). Colors (see screenshot)! Interactive key guided "traditional" key creation. TaxonPage endpoints & much more.

#Biodiversity is vast. Building keys for hundreds or thousands of species?

Now available in TaxonWorks- powerful new tools to create dynamic "traditional" keys from interactive keys using matrices of trait/observations/character data.

Before there are #species there are #specimens.

A new UI is coming to spatially explore and batch annotate collection objects- for taxonomists who monograph, and collections that digitally extend their specimens. #taxonomy

Released 0.50.0. Changelog: github.com/SpeciesFileG...

Music to our ears! Add Sounds- code their metadata in a matrix, link them as Conveyances to, well, the Things they convey. Numerous curation-related quality of life improvements. More Container integration. A good handful of bugs squashed too.

Released 0.49.0. Changelog: github.com/SpeciesFileG...

A big one. A *lot* more FieldOccurrence support, filters, browse, DwC export and more. Batch manage Protocols (MachineObservations possible). Numerous new search facets. Many UI improvements including lockable table columns. Bug fixes galore.

The integration of LLM agents into TaxonWorks is inevitable.

The amazing: A *single* prompt and image was all it took to generate this, 10 seconds of human work.

The horrible: It is for all intents and purposes 100% wrong, hours to fix.

Over time we will find a balance.

Happy to announce that Sounds are coming to TaxonWorks. Relate them as Conveyances to CollectionObjects, OTUs, or as metadata for CollectingEvents. Score them with Observations ("traits" for you science hipsters) in matrices, and annotate them in many ways, as you can all Things in TW.
