But that’s probably an angle left for my own fanfic where RadioMagus reigns supreme. Probably because it feels like I’m betraying my degree and the people I know irl, and extended family, to act like it wasn’t as bad as it was.

It would make his targets make sense to be the whites in power not (just) because he ran into issues, but he watched those he loved (like his mother) face horrible treatment, & watched white law enforcement turn a blind eye. It also would let him “convince” himself that he was doing a good thing.

This is also just my preference but to me, from a character standpoint, it would be fascinating if Alastor could pass as white (a common thing with mixed Creole/White children back then) & lived double life.

What we see now as “dark skinned” or “POC” is not remotely what was seen in even the 1950s. My father’s dad’s side (middle eastern) was sat in the back, birth certs listed as “dark” or “black” & today? NO ONE would bat an eye: whole family considered white. It was SO MUCH WORSE before the 1960s.

I love Viv, to bits, but it’s gotta be handled carefully because there are descends from NOLA whose great grand parents (still alive!) went through this & couldn’t get jobs or let into places if they didn’t remain out of the sun. Passing, or a convincing story was so important.
