Former library director here. In most cases, books you donate WON'T be added to the library directly, they'll be sold to raise money for the library - so newer books in decent condition are probably OK to donate. But if it's really outdated or in bad shape? Recycle bin!

It does. Books that haven’t been checked out in a long time are “weeded” from the system to make room for new books. This means if you want to support a favorite author & continue to see their work in your library, you should borrow their books to keep them actively in circulation. 🙂
