Personally, I'd be happy to cap non-resident ownershipmof single-family residences to a number less than 5 or 10 and start there, breaking the VC role in housing.

Also, there are many other things in China I don't want besides land ownership. Why not get ideas from europe? Korea?

I don't think the only option is China. I'm sure there are others. We didn't build a middle class back in the day by following a China model, and I sure don't trust the current government with that sort of additional power.

But i agree housing affordability and availability need fixing.

On one hand, I see the point. On the other hand, it seems like government price controls, which don't sound awesome. And similar logic applies to cars and food, no?

What about prohibitively high taxes on owning more than 1 rental property?

Great, i appreciate the response (I had looked but had no luck myself)

This notes an imbalance in housing: expensive vs. affordable. In my area, I've seen lots of very nice homes and luxury apartments go up.

Can part of the problem be building the wrong housing because investors distort the market

I agreer the immigrants thing is crap.

But please show the data showing there isn't a shortage of housing. That's a bold statement critical to your proposition that the supply and demand cycle doesn't apply to housing.

These don't seem mutually exclusive - if there is a shortage in housing, then sure competiton my both owners and investors drives up prices, per that graph.

The problem seems to not be supply shortage vs. rick folk. It could be supply shortage + rich folk.

I'll take "not looking well" as improvement over "doomed". I agree it doesn't look great, which is my some of us are fighting
