/help eventually but not everybody is you, not everybody heals the same ways, and not everybody even knows where to start. i always see posts like this but never any resources, never any support, nothing. i just do not understand how it’s helping at all

i absolutely agree that toting it around as a sexuality is fucked up, and actually committing real life actual abuse is even worse. it’s just discouraging to see the same “get help you’re not well” flung around when a lot of them already Know and can’t get there without help. i’m glad you could get/

i agree on that. it’s not healthy to have those attractions, it’s not healthy to have the whole pride flags and whatnot. but many of the people with those paraphilias literally don’t have resources to get help, and getting told “get help” does nothing but make it worse.

this isn’t coming from a place of ignorance either. i know firsthand how awful being sexually assaulted and groomed as a child is, but the shame and stigma doesn’t work to get those people to get help. there needs to be resources and community to support people helping so the abuse doesn’t happen

what do we do for those people, genuinely. it just feels like telling someone with schizophrenia or BPD or PTSD or really any other mental disorder to “just get therapy”

i want to understand why it’s different to say “get therapy” to this but not any other mental disorders?

i mean this in the most polite way i possibly can. but therapy is INCREDIBLY expensive. many of the folks struggling with these paraphilias cannot afford therapy. many of the folks struggling with these paraphilias have been abused in those ways too. many of them are scared. many turn to fiction
