Taunton Area Cycling Campaign is a voluntary group run by local residents. Formed in October 2016, our aim is safer, better and more cycling in the Taunton Area.
Taunton Area Cycling Campaign supporters braved the rain on Saturday 6th December to cycle the Foxglove Trail as a memorial to the sterling work of the sadly departed Mike Ginger.

Did you know that you can cycle from Silk Mills Park and Ride to Taunton Town Centre or the College or Musgrove Park Hospital? Travelling the route takes you through the glorious Longrun Meadow. Keep an eye out for the white on blue signs to direct your cycling journey.

42 barriers to cycling in Taunton and counting. TACC member Fiona has been doing an amazing job of cataloguing all the barriers to cycling in and around Taunton. All the examples have less than 1.5 m spacing between the barriers.

This example of lockable bollards from the Scottish borders shows how you can provide blocks to cars without putting in awkward chicanes.

Reflective stripes have been placed on the new lockable bollards that have been placed in the entrances of French Weir Park. Looks like a dog's dinner (same contractors as the Victoria Park mess methinks) but at least people will be able to see the low obstacles in the dark.

LTN 1/20 provides guidance on cycle infrastructure design for local councils.

"Access controls that require the cyclist to dismount or cannot accommodate the cycle design vehicle are not inclusive and should not be used." (from 8.3.2 of LTN 1/20)

Taunton Area Cycling Campaign are trying to highlight barriers to cycling in and around the Taunton Area. This barrier in Killams shows how Somerset road and path engineers still do not build against guidelines set out by the government in LTN 1/20 - www.gov.uk/government/p... .

Barriers can be a really pain on cyclepaths. Extremely disappointing that Taunton town Council is starting to put more in. This is a new one on the Victoria Park path, installed without consultation. They argue that it will make it safer for children to and from the nearby St James School.

This is one reason that cycling in Somerset is so enjoyable. The beautiful landscape.
