Today's #BirdOfTheDay is #FoodFinds. This European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) got lucky. It had just caught one of the UK's largest Crane flies, Tipula maxima. Quite appropriate for a bird that belongs to the family of Old World flycatchers!

First post for #InsectThursday, and dreaming of warmer days, what I think is a Black-tailed Skimmer (Orthetrum cancellatum), though correction welcome. This one is from Alcollarín, #Extremadura in SW Spain.

In the centre of the photo a side view of a blue and black dragonfly. It's facing to the left. Its wings are held slightly forward, so difficult to see. It has dark blue eyes, a darker blue body, whilst its tail is a light powdery blue with a very dark, almost black tip. It's perched on a rough thin stick which runs from bottom right corner to almost fill the left edge of the photo. The background is a diffuse green.
