we REALLY need to get people educated on the difference between hitboxes and hurtboxes. hope this helps

If an enemy HITBOX collides with the guy's HURTBOX, then the enemy will HIT the guy and the guy will be HURT. The red box is the guy's HITBOX. If it collides with an enemy's HURTBOX, then the guy will HIT the enemy and the enemy will be HURT. To the right of the guy is an enemy surrounded by overlapping red and green boxes. This enemy does CONTACT DAMAGE. Although its HITBOX and HURTBOX overlap, they are still two distinct boxes; you HIT its HURTBOX and GET HURT by its HITBOX.

And what a fight it is. It’s another two-phaser, and the first thing you’ll notice about the fight is that Gael’s health bar does not go down very much when you hit him. This is because he has very high health and defense because of course he does. In terms of how many hits it’s going to take to bring him down, he’s up there with Midir, who is a giant dragon. But hey, you should be used to that by now. The first phase of the fight is fairly simple, he just runs you down and swings his sword. Then at like, 70% health, a cutscene plays and he goes into phase 2…and NOW we’re dealing with a Dark Souls 3 DLC boss. He’s acrobatic, and he has a rapid fire crossbow. When he swings his sword, his cloak follows the swing and is on fire. He screams and ten thousand tortured souls erupt from his cloak of darkness and home in on you. There are also lightning strikes for some reason. They are random, as far as I can tell. I have only been hit by them once and it was because I dodged backwards into one that was offscreen and it killed me. To put it plainly, this fight is stupid. But it’s Dark Souls 3 DLC; what else could it be?
