hey @gluesenkampperez.house.gov, I wrote to you about how I’m worried that 14,000 babies are going to be killed and this is how you responded. I’m disgusted by your insensitivity, sending a form letter with completely outdated information. children are being killed. do better.
Text reads: Thank you for contacting me about the Israel-Hamas War. I appreciate you taking the time to reach out, and I deeply value your insight and input. On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists initiated an unprovoked, large-scale assault on Israel, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 1,400 Israeli lives and leaving thousands more injured. This marked the deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust. Immediately following the attacks, Hamas kidnapped hundreds of Israelis, many of whom are still being held hostage. In response, Israel ordered a siege on Gaza. The deadly actions of Hamas terrorists undermine the Israel-Palestine progress toward a durable peace. As we mourn the loss of innocent lives, we must continue to both ensure our ally Israel can defend itself against Hamas and address the humanitarian needs of the innocent civilians in Gaza. Both Palestinians and Israelis deserve the right to live with dignity, freedom, and security, and the United States has an important role to play in fostering peace in the region. Securing Israel–as the only liberal democracy in the region–is the most durable option for maintaining women’s and LGBTQ freedoms in the Middle East. While Israel’s current leadership has taken actions counterproductive to achieving long-term peace in the region, countries have a right to defend their borders and their citizens, especially from terrorism. On January 15, 2025, Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire and hostage-exchange deal–calling for an end to over 15 months of conflict. Since then, Hamas has returned three Israeli hostages. In addition, Israel has released 90 Palestinian prisoners. I’m grateful to see these individuals reunited with their families. The deal also provides additional humanitarian aid for Gaza and the rehabilitation of its infrastructure and communities. It’s essential that the international community continues to work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict and provide vital humanitarian assistance to those in need. Please know I’m closely monitoring developments in the region and will keep your input in mind legislation related to this issue comes for a vote before the House.
