This article talks about some common issues that make sport less of a "safe space" for athletes, both youth and adults. One main point was that change is going to be a struggle because many clubs require volunteers, and many of them won't be willing or able to take the changes into their hands.

Could not agree more, with more coverage women in sport would also have more opportunities to close the pay gap in sport, as well as other things like brand deals and sponsors!

Thankful to see he recieved a red card for this situation. This very much goes against not only the rules of the sport, but also the spirit of the sport. It would have been interesting to see how people would have reacted had this been a womens team, if the backlash would have been more or less.

For me it is hard to classify this as deviant or not, purely because of how new they are to society. Nobody has had a chance to witness the "long-term" effects the nicotine pouches have on people, or in athletes.

This article talks about the potential reasons pro athletes engage in "deviant behaviour." They research and explain how they believe a large contribution of why starts in youth sports, despite youth sport being known for promoting positive things like teamwork and confidence.

It's so upsetting how people blamed him for the loss, especially because he was probably even more upset with himself than anybody else was, that had to add to the amount of shame he felt. Shame as an athlete is hard to get over, especially if the public kept adding to it.

I don't know if this is the healthiest way of thinking, when we put the athlete's health first, but in reality I know you have to replace a starter if they get hurt. montrealgazette.com/sports/hocke...

This article/video talks about how most athletes are aware of the injuries they can play through, and which they cannot. I thought it was interesting when he said "I get it, it's one of those things you have to do, or you're going to lose your job to someone." when referring to smaller injuries.

At the 2024 Tokyo Olympics, the German womens national gymnastics team decided to wear full leotards (typically mens uniforms) to protest the sexualization that women face in gymnastics. They also did this in 2021 European Championship.

love that you took this opportunity to highlight the importance of the people that aren't shown or in the spotlight of the sports teams, because they deserve recognition like this as well

With a full time career, physical activity, recreation, or sport opportunities will definitely be limited, with less time and opportunities, but one may plan when they're going to the gym, when they're going to run, join weekend, or night rec sports leagues, or even have a home gym to stay active.

Soccer club in Regina (FCR) requires coaches to complete 5 online courses(must pay for some)before being considered to coach youth soccer. This educates coaches and makes sports safe for kids, and rules out potential coaches that arent willing to put effort into the kids, reducing the risk of abuse.

The article I am sharing is an example of the functionalist theory in sport. This article argues that sport has the power to turn peoples lives around by giving them positive role models and a sense of belonging, fulfilling their role in social integration.

I define sport as an organized activity that requires you to think critically on the spot, involves competitive and physical components, making the cardiovascular system work hard in some way. Often causing people to breathe heavily, or sweat.
