Definitely. But, I've found that I get too invested and want to see a complete miniature and forget to leave things in pieces to make my life easier, later.
Instead, I might invent a series of bendy paintbrushes.

The best miniatures to paint are probably the ones you're most interested in! If you're not going to play, then it's all aesthetic. There's a few starter sets of paint, but the brush they come with is dire and you probably already have clippers for gunplay. Decide on your models first, then paints.

Signing a mortgage one page at a time was bad enough for me, I can't imagine what mess I'd make after signing so much.

Age old issue! I'm rather jealous of everyone who posts about having regular games with large groups. Seems like a bit of a luxury to have to decide on house rules for campaigns and stuff.

In 2024, I decided to get back into painting after decades away from it to get me away from screens. Just a few paints, the required tools, a few miniatures. Swore to only have one box in the queue unpainted.
Current queue: sentinel, baneblade, cadians, kasrkin, field artillery.
Sigh.

Looking damn fancy! I just finished the same mini and had the whip pink as an undercoat for a strong yellow. I was tempted to leave it, since it looks rather good like that!

I'm of the strong opinion that having FemSM's would make 40K more cool. Female Astra Militarum, also cool. Not just special characters.
