Our model captures several distinct decision-processes in EEG: Online confidence controls the flow of information to optimise both the quality and quantity of information for a decision.
Decisions with better EEG-predicted confidence control show faster, more accurate behaviour.

We find that the active role of confidence explains how participants slow down when they encounter low-quality evidence, but also capitalise on early high-quality evidence.

To get here, we:
1) Formalised the active role of confidence in perceptual decisions in a new computational model
2) Designed a task to accentuate this active role of confidence
3) Tested the plausibility of this description for human behaviour and neural activity (EEG).
