Visited the Wildegoose Nursery yesterday. A glorious mixture of flowers and crops, absolutely alive with insect life. Delicious food from the tearoom, some of which was grown in the garden. An absolute inspiration! Thanks @pickeletto.bsky.social for the tip.

Please can someone confirm this is Leopoldius signatus? Very early and not recorded in Montgomeryshire before! @flygirlnhm.bsky.social @teamdiptera.bsky.social @dipteristsforum.bsky.social #ukwildlife #flies #conopidae

What a treasure @rspb.bsky.social's Bempton Cliffs is! The shear abundance of bird life there is astounding & such close views of Gannets, in particular. Today, I learned how to age them and was intrigued why there were so many non-breeding birds there. Corn Bunting & Tree Sparrow too!

Cracking start to #30DaysWild going through the moth trap in the garden. 75 individual moths of 25 species, including two less common species, Maiden's Blush and Orange Footman.

Of the nests in the garden nest boxes this year, two Blue Tits failed, and two successfully fledged 8 young each. The last to go are these beautiful Great Tits (6/7). 🤞

Another enjoyable morning round the moth trap. 74 individual moths, 26 species recorded, plus 4 cockchafers and a caddisfly.

Our local sheep are lucky. All morning, they have sheltered in the shade of the trees in the L photo. Then, as the sun moved round, one-by-one, they walked over to the other side of the field, to the increasing shade there (R photo). These trees and hedges support lots of wildlife as well.

A big surprise to encounter a female Common Clubtail at #Welshpool Golf Club today! A few miles from the River Severn, where they breed, and a new record for the site! 😃 #ukwildlife

My 19th Montgomeryshire PBF flight season has come to an end, and today, I saw the first Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary. Also had eight other butterfly 🦋 species, including half a dozen Painted Lady, who have suddenly appeared everywhere!

Getting some practice in ahead of the Moth Morning event at #Welshpool Golf Club later this month (www.montwt.co.uk/events/2025-...). 19 species, the most numerous being Cockchafer beetles. The Shark was a big surprise; my book says late June onwards! Puss Moth and Spectacle my other top faves.

The early spring continues! This afternoon, just beside my favourite Hawthorn at Middletown Hill, I heard at least two Common Green Grasshoppers stridulating!! Took me quite a while to believe what I was hearing!

After a rubbish night's sleep, I felt pulled by outdoors. Wonderful! Saw at least 7 rabbits & 16 Fallow Deer; the bluebells were beautiful. The air was cool and filled with bird song. The half moon, followed by sunrise above Breidden Hill was the icing on the cake.

Spring is so early this year! Pearl-bordered Fritillary butterflies on the wing near Welshpool today! 5th April is a new record earliest emergence, by a whole week! They were too quick for photos, so this is a shot I took a few years ago. @savebutterflies.bsky.social @pickeletto.bsky.social

Eight years recording #GardenBirds and other garden visitors for @bto-gbw.bsky.social. It is always particularly satisfying to feed my obsessive biological recording habit with meaningful contributions to science. ☺️
