Synapses taught me so much about experimenting with new materials and techniques. It’s been one of the most rewarding projects yet!

4️⃣ Plotting order: The Truchet tiling design generated lines algorithmically, but overlapping dried lines caused unwanted dark areas. I spent hours reorganizing the order to fix this.

3️⃣ Ink levels: Too little ink made pale lines; too much created messy overlaps. Finding the perfect balance was key to achieving the desired look. 🎯

2️⃣ Inks: I started with Dr. Ph. Martin’s Tech Drawing inks (UV resistant) but wasn’t happy with the blending. I switched to Ecoline watercolors, which gave vibrant, smooth results. A varnish added UV and water protection. 🌟

Switching to canvas for the first time came with challenges:
1️⃣ Finding the right canvas: I tested many but landed on a primed cotton canvas from Phoenix (P6031) for its smooth texture.

I’m excited to share Synapses, which will be part of Comparaison 2025 at the Grand Palais in Paris (Feb 19–22, 2025).
It’s my first time working with canvas and watercolors—a challenging but rewarding process.

Tied in a loop, endless yet grounded.
‘Figure Eight Knot’ reminds me of the beauty in connection and strength in simplicity.

Katsuhiro Yamaguchi’s work featuring video behind corrugated glass was mesmerizing. It created a pixel-like effect that forced my brain to imagine the original footage.

This 1967 pen plot by Charles Csuri blew me away. A portrait created with a NASA computer, punched cards, and a plotter. Emotional for me, as I started my pen plotter journey with portraits too.

Nake’s Matrizmultiplikation Serie 29 (1967) is a pen plotter artwork. The vibrant color mixes are so inspiring—they resonate with me because working with bold palettes is something I’m really into.

Edward Zajec’s RAM 2 V.3 (1969) is a pen plotter artwork. I love the 3D effect created by the dark parts—it feels architectural and abstract at the same time.

Katsuhiro Yamaguchi’s Fujitsubo (Barnacle), 1966/2017, feels like a 3D light drawing that blurs the line between sculpture and illumination. I love how it plays with both form and light.

Mary Martin’s Permutation of Six (1966) was created without a computer but used a Truchet tiling algorithm—a technique close to my heart because I’ve been exploring it for years and might keep going for many more.
