My paternal grandmother died of equine encephalitis in 1947 in Saskatchewan which had an outbreak that year. She was a midwife and often visited rural homes.

What I especially loved about your ‘harvest’ photo was the use of a coin as a size comparison. I’ve recently upgraded my comparison tool from the coin I used for my Italian peppers photo to a wooden clothespin.

I’m glad to read of others having this semi-conscious sense of food insecurity despite never going without (note: my parents were wartime parents). Once, before leaving my car at an auto shop, I stopped to buy hotdogs & buns in case it wasn’t ready when they said it would be. I had food at home. 🤷‍♀️

I think you and I should agree right here that it's going to be called the Magic Carpet fallacy and just publicize it on that basis. Because public discourse in this country needs a name for it.
