"The new Colossus"

Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

We have seen some truly terrible things in the past few days. We have seen our nation fall to fascism and a rise in poverty. A rise in human suffering.

Id like to remind you that while we must grieve, we need to maintain hope. We need to seek helpers and be the helpers we seek.

Do not, under any circumstances, tell anyone asking if you know any immigrants. I don't care if you do, you don't anymore.

Loose lips sink ships, don't let your neighbors drown for it.

These people are our neighbors, they're integral to our society and it's sickening that people need to be reminded that immigrants are people.
Mass deportation & the Laken Riley Act falsely target immigrants as criminals. Research from the FBI & Brennan Center proves U.S. citizens are far more likely to commit crimes, including violent ones. Immigrants strengthen communities & lower crime rates—don’t let fear fuel injustice.

Please please please protect yourself. Protect your neighbors. I'm so sorry it's come to this. I wish we could've done better for you. American immigrants deserve better.
Fuck ICE. Immigrants built our country.

Donald Trump is going to try to play saviour to gain more favor. Do not let this trick you. He doesn't care about the livelihood or community you've built on the platform, he cares about gaining adoration by manipulating situations into letting him be the good guy. Pay attention to actions like this

Sometimes I sit here and just think about how concepts like solarpunk are considered fantastical despite its main characteristics being sustainable agriculture and healthy communities.

Something about that just stings.

I sniffed out an electrical short at work. I am basically a truffle pig (which is cool and good).

Inmates are currently being used to fight fires in LA, making pennies for risking their lives, but will be almost completely barred from being firefighters after being released. How is this fair to them? When are we going to help them? We need a #prisonreform

Paid as little as $9 a day: Hundreds of prisoners are fighting the LA fires
Almost 400 imprisoned firefighters have reportedly been deployed to battle the devastating wildfires across southern California.

We should all spend January 20th learning a new skill on YouTube or something instead of watching the inauguration as it unfolds. Let's not inflate Trump's ego with high ratings for his inauguration.

I "love" looking at a impoverished Latin American or Caribbean country and being able to directly pinpoint where their economic decline happened (it is always after American/European interference)

Like literally name almost any of them and it's 9/10 the fault of imperialism in its entirety.

dayton, ohio may have been the city where the airplane, the cash register, and the stepladder was invented, but in my mind its greatest contribution to the human race is marion’s piazza.

Another banger excerpt from "solidarity forever". This song just rocks

"In our hands is placed a power greater than their hoarded gold,
Greater than the might of armies, multiplied a thousand-fold.
We can bring to birth a new world from the ashes of the old
For the union makes us strong."

Here's an excerpt from the song "Solidarity Forever"(1915).

"It is we who plowed the prairies; built the cities where they trade;
Dug the mines and built the workshops, endless miles of railroad laid;
Now we stand outcast and starving ’midst the wonders we have made;
But the union makes us strong"

Never forget that united fruit never left Guatemala after they killed Jacobo Arbenz. They just changed their name. Think about these people and the graves they're in next time you think of banana pudding or banana bread. There's blood on the hands of Chiquita and Dole.

How much is a banana worth?

I am a pediatrician. I served as one of the medical directors for this camp.

I LOVE that HIV in kids is rare. But that does not make this a feel good story.

This camp had started weeks dedicated to LGBTQ kids. These were LIFE SAVING sessions.

Camp is closing because of $. It’s a huge loss.
That is NOT why this camp is closing. Please stop spreading this ridiculous story.

HIV in youth is low, which IS great. But there was 1 week per year for housing insecure kids and 4 weeks per year for LGBTQ kids.

There just isn’t enough $ to support a camp that mostly served queer kids.
After nearly three decades, a Minnesota summer camp for kids with HIV/AIDS is closing and up for sale... because retroviral drugs are so effective that there aren't enough campers.

Science works, y'all.

We had a big snow storm last night and I'm so mad I'm at work. I should be at home spinning yarns and eating warm bread while my pickle soup simmers.

This is the result of Trump's slander against the Haitians of Springfield Ohio. This is the lasting impact that isn't being reported on. This is just a handful of the horrible things being said about the hardworking, intelligent people I call my neighbors.

Haitians in Springfield are still facing a massive amount of racism due to Trump's accusations, he's just moved on without consequences and the media moved with him.
You know what you never hear about nowadays? Springfield, Ohio. I guess all the cats and dogs are okay after all.

Weird how that issue just one day disappeared from the news though, isn't it?

Fred Hampton was the voice of the downtrodden and of the future. Of course the FBI assassinated him.

They have only proven that they don't care about facts and that hatred matters more than the American people
Because it needs to be said, despite propaganda being spread about the terrorist in New Orleans being an immigrant, he was in fact born and raised in Texas and was a US Veteran. Their hopes in using this brutal terror attack to demean immigrants has ended in total failure.
