The Fund for Taos to Address Urgent Community Needs as SNAP Benefits End: In response to the expiration of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Taos Community Foundation is supporting local nonprofits that are helping families and individuals facing increased hardship.
The Fund for Taos to Address Urgent Community Needs as SNAP Benefits End: TAOS, NM - In response to the expiration of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Taos Community Foundation is supporting local nonprofits that are helping families and individuals facing increased hardship, including food insecurity and financial strain. Our community created the Fund for Taos in 2020 to help our neighbors in times of urgent need—originally in response to the Covid-19 pandemic—and has since awarded 144 grants totaling more than $1.6 million through this fund to support local families. Every dollar contributed to the Fund for Taos supports local nonprofits responding to unmet needs in the community, which could include food, shelter, access to support services, and coordination between community networks. Currently, we are partnering with 100% Taos County Initiative and Taos Behavioral Health to distribute grocery and gas cards to families affected by the loss of SNAP benefits. If you’d like to contribute to the Fund for Taos to help the nonprofits providing essential support to our community, you can give online at taoscf.org, visit us in person to make life a little easier for Taoseños in need. This year’s recipient is Hank Friedman.

Hank has dedicated more than 30 years to supporting the youth of our community both as a beloved soccer coach and through his work on TCF Scholarship Committees. Hank’s motto is one to live by: “Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.”

After receiving her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico in 2021, Ashley is now studying accounting at Central New Mexico Community College, studying to earn her CPA license. This full-time non-exempt position does work related to finance operations, including processing accounts receivable/accounts payable and donor/grant record-keeping.
