Woke up this morning, still full of joy and gratitude to all the friends coming from all over the world to participate in this year's Rutgers Workshop on Chinese Philosophy. We got to enjoy each other's company while indulging ourselves in debating the finer points of classical Chinese philosophy.

During a quick trip to Toronto several days ago, we had a chance to visit the famous Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) near University of Toronto. ROM has a rather impressive collection of Chinese art. Definitely worth a look.

I almost forgot how impressive NYC can be, especially from high above. Had brunch with friends at Dim Sum Palace in Chinatown. Dragon dancers came into the restaurant! Loads of fun!

Attending a Conference on Agency and Experience at Princeton right now. It brings together scholars of Buddhist philosophy, cognitive science, and others in a series of fascinating conversations. Jay Garfield is speaking right now on the primacy of experience.

Drove to Philadelphia this evening amidst a bit of snow flurry to watch a fabulous performance of Tchaikovsky’s piano concerto no.1 by the one and only Wang Yuja with Philadelphia Orchestra. Dinner at a decent Sichuan restaurant, Emei, in Chinatown before the show. All in all, a wonderful evening.

Had a quick trip to China with an overnight stay in Hong Kong, which gave me a chance to visit the giant Buddha not too far from the HK airport. The 20-minute cable car ride to the big Buddha was quite amazing as well.

Have never seen this one before. Wonder where they put the dead waste.🤔 Sometimes these literal translations might even be inspiring, taking us to unexpected places.😂

Happy New Year of the Dragon to those who celebrate! (whoever made or whatever generated this fruit platter, thank you!)

Went to the Met yesterday. A woman came up to us asking to take a picture of us at the jade collection. She introduced herself as the great granddaughter of Heber Bishop, one of the founders of the Met. The jade collection is named after him as the Bishop Collection. Interesting New York experience!

In Amsterdam to give a talk at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam tomorrow. Had a chance to visit the Rijksmuseum this afternoon. What an impressive collection there, especially masterpieces by Dutch artists. I had never heard of Johannes Vermeer before, but his works are just amazing.

When it rained, it poured! It was that kind of day yesterday. I attended a conference at Rutgers in honor of my colleague Larry Temkin during the day and a talk on Zhuangzi by David Wong in the evening at Columbia that ended with a group dinner. A philosophical feast! Heading to London now.

I finally made it to Mont Saint-Michel. Ever since I saw its picture, I knew I'd see it in person one day. It was early October, on a warm Tuesday, and the place wasn't too crowded. Just perfect. Next time, I will come back when there is high tide, and I will stay the night in the castle.

Waiting for my flight back to Paris. Flying back and forth is hectic, but hosting great scholars is worth it! Yesterday’s Neo-Confucian Studies Seminar at Columbia was packed. We had great fun discussing the word 藏 in Zhu Xi’s and Seongho’s commentaries on Mencius. Life is just amazing, sometimes.
