The chest was done using Melanesian 'stick and poke', the forearm was done using a Samoan Au and tapping technique, using the shark tooth tools in the picture.

I used this extract from the film to apply for the Macmillan Brown Pacific Artist in Residence, at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch. In the middle of my 3month residency I went to Paris to do a show at the Centre Pompidou. In that 3 weeks I was gone I had a huge fall out with a friend.

At the time the rising Tongan social media star - Fili Tapa ended up being our handsome poster boy. This film wasn't just made for queer boys but for all brown boys. I really appreciated cis straight Pacific Island men, secure enough in their own identities, supporting a project cause they get it.

I should probably update my grief films, now that both my parents are in the ground. Apparatus was defiantly an attempt at breaking generational curses. It might be time to let it all go... Thinking of just releasing this film from 2018 online. It's been shown in so many places around the world.

Was at Te Wanaga O Aotearoa today and clocked my 2012 work on the wall in the foyer. I sold this to them 13 years ago. It still looks like it was made yesterday. Crazy 🤯😁

I've always loved old-school, graphic style, cartoon illustrations. Even more so since generative A.I. ruined photo-realism for me. There's something about the way it tries to catfish us into believing it's real, that I fucking despise. Drawing boys everyday till I hit 💯.

In Thailand we got asked a lot if we're brothers... While I hate that question, I get it. Two Samoans travelling together, something I imagine the locals never seen in their entire lives. But I otherwise hate that question. To other Samoans we look like we come from different sides of the island.
