I’ve been going in the other direction lately. I’m typically focused on tight plot execution, but lately I’m experimenting with slice of life/smaller scale stories through fan fiction writing with my wife. It’s never going to be my main focus or style, but the experience improves my writing overall.

Of course there’s no shortcuts or secret tips to art, it’s all about fundamentals. But YT video formats as a type of fast food content draws in audiences looking for quick solutions.

I think the main audience of art help videos are people that are feeling dissatisfied with their art progress, and feel they need a little more push than “more practice”, so they feel little value is gained from watching videos where that’s the main takeaway.

The issue with a lot of YT art tutorials is that the advice usually boils down to “practice more” and that’s not really what people want to hear.

It’s a mood. Trying to self publish books made me realise that your job as an author isn’t writing, it’s marketing 😭

It's sad how many writers think they hit the pinnacle of their creativity in highschool and never move on from it lol. Creativity is a skill, too, and many don't realize it.
