At 09:06:02 AM this morning the CEO of Amazon Andy Jassy had already made the annual salary of a Bangladeshi garment worker. 10 minutes later, Zara’s Oscar García Maceiras had done the same.

#TulipSiddiq is a UK Gov minister, responsible for tackling financial corruption. She is also the former dictator of Bangladesh’s niece AND now is under investigation into claims her family embezzled up to £3.9bn from Bangladesh. She’s alleged to have brokered a nuclear power plant deal w' Putin.
Court documents seen by the BBC show Hajjaj accused Siddiq of mediating and coordinating meetings for the Bangladeshi officials with the Russian government to build the £10bn Rooppur Power Plant Project. It is claimed that the deal inflated the price of the plant by £1bn, according to the documents - 30% of which was allegedly distributed to Siddiq and other family members via a complex network of banks and overseas companies. In total, Hajjaj alleges £3.9bn was siphoned out of the project by Hasina's family and minister. Footage from 2013 appears to show Siddiq attended the deal's signing by Hasina and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, recorded by the Associated Press.

I am very pleased to have published this important article by Nandita Shivakumar & Nikita Joseph. Through flowers they provide an intimate insight into the lives of garment workers in Tamil Nadu whilst debunking the nonsense of CSR schemes.
The wearing of flowers by garment workers is profoundly misunderstood. It has come under criticism as a sign of ‘financial-illiteracy’ - of frivolous high spending amongst low-waged women who can’t manage their monthly expenses. Flowers have become a target and a way to blame garment workers for their poverty while sidelining the systemic inequities that characterise the garment industry. But the stories of women workers in Tamil Nadu challenge these misconceptions. They reveal both adeptness in managing extremely limited wages and the way that these flowers, often obtained at minimal or no cost, carry profound meaning. These are flowers worn as acts of self-care, offering a source of joy and resilience amidst the systemic injustices they face.

Now, luckily @cyd.social has come along and helped me delete everything. The new version is exceptionally fast - highly recommended.

As of 21st November 2024: 137 journalists and media workers were confirmed killed: 129 Palestinian, two Israeli, and six Lebanese. 47 journalists were reported injured 2 journalists were reported missing 74 journalists were reported arrested. Multiple assaults, threats, cyberattacks, censorship, and killings of family members.
