UConn Old World Archaeology graduate student studying the Upper Paleolithic in the Southern Caucasus, one rock at a time.
In addition, I want to also mention another publication from our team that was just released in QEH on the Middle Paleolithic rockshelter Lusakert-1, located just down the Hrazdan from Solak-1. This one is fully open access, so enjoy!

The geoarchaeology, chronology and environment of Lusakert-1, a Late Middle Palaeolithic rockshelter (Kotayk Province, Armenia)
Lusakert-1 (LKT-1) is a key site in any discussion of the Palaeolithic of the Armenian Highlands. This is in large part because of a long-running camp…

If you are interested in this region and time period, stay tuned for more in-depth analyses of the lithic technology from Solak-1 in the near future. And please feel free to reach out for access to the lithic data if interested.

In addition to providing new insight into Middle Upper Paleolithic technologies, we use the paper as an opportunity to try and synthesize the Upper Paleolithic record of the southern Caucasus, of which more exciting and interesting research will hopefully be coming soon!

Solak-1 is one of just a handful of stratified Upper Paleolithic sites in Armenia, and this publication has been a long time coming since its excavation in 2015.

I am also grateful to our Armenian colleagues and collaborators for discovering the site, for allowing me to work on this material as a graduate student, for sharing their expertise in the regional record, and for continuing to support research into the Paleolithic of Armenia.

The analysis of the lithic artifacts from Solak-1 was done as part of my phd research, but a lot of work by a lot of people went into this paper. The paper includes micro and macro geoarchaeological analyses, luminescence dating, and pXRF analysis as well.

First, I just want to acknowledge that the publication of this paper comes amid the resignation of the editorial staff at JHE. I am grateful to former EiC Andrea Taylor for continuing to support and work on its publication even after the resignation became public.
