History, music, radio, theatre, politics (no not those guys), coffee and cats.
Moderate family historian and novice Spanish speaker. In the UK.
So, tweeple (ah I loved that bird site phrase), this time next week I’ll be in South America.
Zero packing started.
I’ve hidden so many ‘UK treats’ around the house for my brother & family, I’ve forgotten where they are.
And will they fit in my suitcase with my stuff?
Plus Christmas pressies.
Eek.

Trump threatening to sue the BBC for $1billion is so very Dr. Evil.

I hope the BBC stand tall and fight back.
He’s such a duplicitous bully.

Love Larry. 🐈 🧡

Not often we’re in high praise of the residents of Downing Street. 😏

“…will soon become the longest continuous resident of Downing Street since Pitt the Younger.” 🤩

This country’s tax burden is in all the wrong places.
My wealth has increased by 25% since June. I have done absolutely nothing to earn this. I just put it in a tracker fund. I will be taxed on that gain at a lower rate than during the Thatcher government.
I’d pay more tax to make this country better and stop Putin in his tracks.

Been for a forest walk today.
It’s great for the soul to walk through woodland. You feel your heart lift. And I didn’t even hug a tree. 🌲 🌳

This time is was Hamsterley Forest in County Durham.

Looking fabulous in the Autumn. 🍂 🍃🍂🍁🌿

We’ve had a robot vacuum for a few years. Quite handy.

But I always wanted that ‘cat rides on robot vacuum cleaner across the room’ shot.
Never happened.
Cat avoided the robot vac like the plague.

Today though. Not riding, but relaxing… 💪

Happy Sunday!

Why not try this coffee & egg recipe I saw in ‘Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management’ at Raby Castle yesterday? 🤨☕️

It does seem odd 🫨 but the coffee grounds coagulate with the egg (including shell!) then sink to the bottom, leaving a smooth coffee without the need for milk.👌

Been to Raby Castle this afternoon. 🏰 🦌

Home to the medieval powerhouse family - the Nevilles, until the 16th century.
The Vane family bought it in the 17th century and their descendants still own it today.

There were some reenactors on site, dressed in medieval attire. 🛡️

I was a little bit late home from work tonight.
Ed was meowing in disapproval from atop the garden fence when I arrived. 😾

“I’m so bloody hungry I’m forced to eat bare tree branches”, he pitifully exaggerated.

Very enjoyable evening listening to @wmarybeard.bsky.social talk about Ancient Rome in Newcastle. 🏛️

The good news is I got all questions right in the interactive quiz, but bad news is I didn’t answer them quick enough and didn’t win a prize.

Mala fortuna!

Been to the David Bowie Centre at the V&A East.
Four photos don’t do it justice & certainly don’t convey how excited I was to see everything.
🫶

It’s the permanent home of Bowie’s archive. Over 90,000 items inc costumes, props, notebooks, diaries, lyrics & correspondence.

Bowie heaven. ⚡️ 💜 👩‍🎤

Who says cats are daft?

Ed discovered a ‘Felix’ gift box from last Christmas.
On the floor behind a sofa in a bay window.
Our bad.

Over a few days he has broken into the treat packets and scoffed them.

He is 10 months late in many eyes.
We were well slack in our treat hiding in others.

As someone who professionally lives and breathes marriage law and everything around it, I find it politically interesting that when the government finally responds to the Law Commission into Marriages, the headline is about boosting the economy.

Major boost to economy through wedding law reform
In the biggest overhaul to marriage law since the 19th century, reforms are set to give marrying couples greater freedom and boost the economy by £535 million.

In Storm Amy news, the building I work in (11 years old) was springing leaks all over this afternoon as rain poured in.
Came home to my very old house fearing the worst, but no leakages. Yet.
Despite felled branches on the drive home, all vegetation intact here.

So we had a railway themed day, on the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway (the first passenger railway in the world folks!) 🚂

We watched a replica of Locomotion No1 cross the Skerne Bridge to recreate that first journey. It’s the oldest working railway bridge in world guys!

So Darlington isn’t famous for much, but it is big in railway history circles.
