He told me that his mom never let him grow his hair out, so this is new. But not learning how to properly wash your face? That's basic hygiene, like brushing teeth. My best guess it's because he was a boy raised around macho men.
Boys deserve to know how to care for their bodies too.

12/12 Clearly this is not a black-and-white issue. I'm not entirely sure how I feel, or what to trust as objective truth on the matter. Writing all this out helps to process some of the irritation and discomfort with the public emotional upheaval, if nothing else.

11/? ...can be useful. Discord has the potential to be used very effectively for the same purposes as TikTok, but has the hurdle of needing to find and join relevant servers. The hurdle is a bit more protection than barrier in my experience.

10/? I don't trust Meta platforms, and I absolutely get the disgust with X. I just don't see TikTok as any better.
BlueSky is filling the space Twitter did, way back in the day, and doing it extremely well from what I see. FB is a shitshow with a couple useful features. Insta is slow-motion but...

9/? ...in the way of seeking or building a *better* platform. They just want TikTok back, despite all the misinformation and proven detriment. This looks like addiction to me, with a flimsy wrapper of socio-political concern.
Maybe I'm missing something crucial because of my lack of TikTok use.

8/? The F-U aspect is functionally performative, tho I know it's felt sincerely. The incoming gov't figured out how to benefit from it,so it'll be bought and released soon enough. This is obvious.

7/? I'm told the move to RedNote is motivated by a belief that what Americans see there is trustworthy portrayal of life in China. I can't confirm or deny that, only advise a hefty dose of salt and the assumption of standard-issue censorship. It's also a big F-U to US gov't for the TikTok ban.
