My life has been somewhat erratic over the last few months and I have not had a great deal of time in my workshop and this time is certainly precious at the moment. But I have managed to immerse myself in the process of creating to make a few pieces for Old Chapel Gallery, Herefordshire.

Had to rest up today as I’ve been over doing things but by this afternoon my energy was returning and I carved this pumpkin. A Wild Folk inspired Black Fox!

As the veil thins we seek the places of power, touch our ancestors’ hands through time, through stone. The psychopomps offer special favours to bring those who have died another glimpse of the almost forgotten, muted beauty of the earth, perhaps to brush the cheek of their descendants.

In 1988 I took a day trip to St Andrews from my rather more lowly (but wonderful) Stirling University. On September 22 I shall be back at Toppings St Andrews to talk all things Wild Folk with Jackie Morris. It’s out only scheduled Scottish event!

8am and the heat is already rising here in Herefordshire. These intensely hot days always remind me of L. P. Hartley’s ‘The Go Between’ both the book and, of course, the film. (Phew! Those leads!) What novel or film is conjured up for you by these heavy, sultry days?

Turn down the lights, turn up the volume for a sublime moment. The words of Jackie Morris read by Jerome Flynn put together with music by Dougal Abbott. This is balm for the soul. (Stained glass by me!)

Today is St Melangell’s Day, patron saint of hares. The 6th century Welsh saint saved a hare from hunting hounds and was granted land for sanctuary. Here are some of my hare themed stained glass panels available as prints. 💚🌿
