I think I've found a new fall beer. (Yes, I know, it's only Tuesday)

Thinking of @lindsaytedds.bsky.social - this is my knitting bag, hanging by my office door. Every once in a while I realize I swore out loud while on stage in front of my class. I remember this, and smile 🤷‍♀️

Some estimates I compiled recently - benefits for the single unattached person in Ontario look worse now than when cut in 1996. (includes fed and prov tax credits, benefits source: Maytree foundation)

On youth unemployment, the likelihood of becoming unemployed remains historically quite low. The problem lies in unemployed youth trying to find new jobs.

General story we are all hearing: employers, uncertain of what's coming, are holding off hiring and expanding

🇨🇦 Youth unemployment duration appears to remain elevated as well - portion of unemployed that have been searching for 6 months or more

Youth unemployment rate remains high (judgement here depends on your reference point). These are not seasonally adjusted, age 15-24, September each year

🇨🇦 I know everyone is thinking about pie, but the jobs numbers came out today. Employment up, unemployment rate steady overall. I updated a few figures.

Employment rates of moms and dads age 25-54, by age of youngest child

Along the same lines, my grandfather was a steelworker. Didn't get your death benefit stamp in time? 🤷‍♀️

We often talk about how updating our IT infrastructure for programs like Employment Insurance matter. But pause to think if how we administered thus in 1951.

Reminder: every year there are businesses across 🇨🇦 that do not survive. This happens whether or not minimum wages increase. It just happens, and we can sympathize, but perhaps it just wasn't meant to be.

Also love running the trails on days like this. But it's distracting, and I can't help but stop and look and smile. But then I like running more, so all good

Outdoors. I like outdoors.

Looking forward to next year's garden. Some of these are bound to grow

Weekend gardening report: time to prepare for winter. Sedum kept the bees busy while I collected the butterfly weed seeds. Sigh.

If you had asked me about course prep 20 years ago, this would not have come to mind

One thing I like about Kitchener: don't have to run far to find a quiet spot.

Just loving our farmers' market. (The watermelon is huge!)

In a small patch of dirt, at a busy midtown bus stop, someone planted corn. Everyone let the seeds grow. It's less than 2 feet tall, and has one small husk, and I think it's fabulous

👀🇨🇦 differences in 🏠 rental costs for new vs. long-term tenants ⬆ (measured here to 2021). Difference is only partially accounted for by composition changes (size, type, condition of rentals, etc.). Difficult to move ➡️ frictions in labour market
