Nino has taken over the super snuggly blanket I got for Xmas. Sometimes, he even shares it w/me, which is good since my 2024 has kicked off w/the Head Cold from Hell, and I’m in desperate need of snuggly comfort.

How’s your first week of the new year been? Hopefully less mucous-filled than mine!

Phew! My first bread of 2024 was a success.

Which is a relief since the last bread of 2023 was an absolute horror show of baking. Smelled great, looked great, then it completely collapsed in the oven. It was edible (barely), but now ranks quite high on My Baking Disasters list.

It's time for a look back at my top reads of the year.

So, if you're ready for possibly the wackiest Best Books of 2023 List, that link below will take you to my end-of-the-year awards ceremony!

Well this was an unexpected surprise for the start of December (aka “Portland’s very non-rainbow-y month”) 😃

What about you? Any unexpected surprises for the start of the month. You know, besides the shock that it’s already December. 😳

I know it’s completely mundane, but I’m weirdly fascinated when the moon is still hanging around in the morning.

Are there any absolutely normal things in the natural world that never fail to capture your attention?

What’s even scarier than Walmart shoppers after a Black Friday deal? My shameless self-promotion!!

Mrs Morris Meets Death is a fan favorite (so much so that people keep asking me to write something longer about the main characters), and it’s yours for FREE if you visit subscribepage.com/mrsmorris

Not quite sure, but I think these people might want to re-read the air fryer instructions for turkey, because this looks nothing like the picture that came with the recipe.

Egad! This whole pushing-the-Xmas-season has gone too far!! Even my houseplants can’t escape it.

What about you? What “Xmas crap” are you already sick of?

For me, I’m already annoyed by all the Xmas tunes in the stores (even the grocery store…WTF?).

I hate it when my garden tries to hypnotize me.

What weird things have your plants (garden or house) been up to this week?

Nino believes in mindset…if you THINK you’re a priceless museum piece, you ARE a priceless museum piece. 😆

And yes, I realize I’m a day late for #caturday but, really, #EveryDayIsCaturday at my house.

What’s delighting your ears and eyeballs this week?

As for me, I’m reading the humorous dark fantasy novel Johannes Cabal, Necromancer in which Johannes has to sign up 100 people to sell their souls the the devil…and there’s a lot of bureaucracy in Hell.

Any strange sightings in your neighborhood lately?

My area’s been invaded by the Floating Cat Head alien species. These otherworldly beings will demand to be taken to your leader, but don’t worry…they quickly forget their nefarious mission when you shake the treat bag.

Um, guys, I’m not kidding. I think my mom kidnapped Barbie, ground her up, and made her into cookies. There’s no other explanation for these. 😳

Any tips on how to break the news to Ken?

Not realizing RoboCat was right behind him, the last thing Nino said was, "Reaching out to wish you a Happy Catur-- GARRRCHHHH."

Hope your #Caturday is turning out better than that.

Just a couple more tidbits from what I am desperately hoping is the FINAL proofread of Beast or Famine.

(By the way, if you want to try a sample chapter from this latest comic fantasy whodunnit, wander over to this link buy.bookfunnel.com/zx4y716doe )

Caught these lovely ladies working hard to get all the goodies on my coneflowers and sunflowers. 🌱

Although, now that I think about it, I suppose it's rude to walk around taking pictures of people when they're working. Probably should have consulted my Miss Manners before going out in the garden.

Did I spend WAY too much time looking for Olivia Newton-John GIFs today?

(And if anyone is wondering why. Let's just say #writing is a very weird job that sends you down some strange rabbit holes.)

Okay, yes, I’ve already done a #caturday post, but how was I supposed to resist the Melted Cat Trifecta? 😻

This was right before I had to drag them all inside due to the incoming wildfire smoke 🤨

Nino has taken the idea of “curling up with a good book” a bit too literally this #Caturday

Maybe not "gorgeous" but it's my latest....

Oh, and it looks like the hostages worked...I'm still trying to figure out how to get into feeds.

What are you reading on this fine #FictionFriday ?

I just started this one a couple days ago and am enjoying it so far. Despite being set in the early 1900s, it's got a fun "Ocean's Eleven" vibe to it.

Still, while the plot has me intrigued, I've yet to connect with any of the characters.

What mistakes have you been up to this week?

For me: Using my skills of idiocy, I FINALLY finished this "easy" project.

See, Queen of the Idiots (aka "me") got in a rush, saw 20 cm, and thought that was the DESIGN size*, when in fact it was the cut FABRIC size.

*The design should have been 8 cm.

Nice! My sunflowers grew too tall this year to get any good bee photos. But here's one from last year's sunflower bonanza : )

Tell me you're a writer without telling me you're a writer...

Me: In case we need to abandon house and flee a wildfire, I recently crammed a "fire evacuation" bag full of necessities. You know, like tea and notebooks and colored pens.
