Windows 2000 was great. No crashes, no bullshit, just got on with things. But it wasn't deemed "consumer grade" because it didn't run DOS programs. Instead most people got Windows Millennium Edition which was a pile of crap. Eventually they merged the two into Windows XP and all hope died with it.
