Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk | Intersection of Politics, Race, Class, Freedom, Emo R&B, the South, Memphis, and the Grizzlies
Always a joy to catch up with two leaders I deeply admire and love—Supervisor Holly Mitchell & Mayor Michael Tubbs. Their visionary leadership and unwavering compassion continue to inspire me, especially in their work advancing guaranteed income initiatives across the country.

Math. I did that so you don’t have to go through that. But here’s my question on this good snow day, if this is the math, where are we focusing solutions? Why are we trying to paint nails on a broken arm?

Snow day thoughts…I might do this all day.

Team General Sessions helped over 250 people with expungements and Drive as You Pay enrollment, giving them a fresh start. Thanks to our host, Criminal Court Clerk Heidi Kuhn, and New Direction Christian Center, we were able to support individuals in taking a positive step forward.

#BHM - Day 2. In 1937, the Mississippi River flooded, causing historic devastation from OH to TN to MS. In Memphis, police officers raided Beale Street, taking Black men from lunch counters & clubs in their best clothes. #BlackHistory #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHistoryYear #BlackHistory365 #Memphis

I get asked “why are you always talking about racism. You have an easy life.”
Me: There’s no easy life for Black folks. Everything I work for could be gone tomorrow. All I have is the fight in me. I will use my voice, platform, position, words, and the freckles on my face til freedom rings or I die.

Only a few bills have been filed for the 2025 TN Leg season. HB11/20/10 (SB5/null/6) show the legislature’s intent to increase surveillance, detention, & deportation of undocumented Tennesseans. From ⬆️ $ for the militia to special IDs (heard that before?) for non citizens. This will be a witch hunt.

While this decision may have been made prior, choosing to move forward with an announcement less than 48 hours after South Korea’s President attempted to upend its own democracy is quite the choice by Ted Townsend and @memphischamber.
