I braved the outdoors. Our neighbor was flying a drone with his kids and they got it lodged in one of our trees. No worries, got it untangled pretty quick. But then we saw that our tortoise was hanging out in the open which made the oppressive heat worth braving.
The vicious attack tortoise who lives in my backyard, viciously attacking a patch of grass.

A cup of tea with the bag it came from called "0 - The Fool Tea" from Foxcraft Apothecary. Both are sitting on a cluttered desk that includes some knitting stuff, some crochet stuff, an unlit candle, and dark iridescent toy skeleton wearing a barely visible crocheted Santa hat.

I'm stupid proud of the shape of the words I'm writing today. Absolutely in love.

Maybe nobody else will notice as they skip from action to action in the book. That's okay. I know the words are there, I know how much heart they contain.

But look!
My world became the green of his eyes. My heart pounded, ached, skipped a beat, and the next thing I knew his arms were around me and he buried his face in my chest. I could feel emotions rolling off of him in desperate waves; I was the rock he was breaking against, the strength for him in all the places I'd felt weak. Calm in all the ways I'd always felt were about to crumble. Being his shelter made me feel sheltered. In being the person he saw as home, I'd finally found a home of my own. I soothed him, running my fingers through his snowy hair, feeling the realness of him (even if he was somehow incomplete, somehow both here and not here), the unrealness of how we were like this now after everything we'd been through to get here, and I just didn't want this moment, this dream, this brief echo of everything I wanted being here. "We need to speak with Baedrogan." I pulled away, eyes on Yda as she broke all protocol about the names of gods, about secrets, and the common decency of letting reunited lovers have just one damn moment together.

I felt numb. I watched Master Higlaen leave, watched him close the door, and I just sat there, staring after him, wondering what emotion caused me to be so devoid of emotion. There was no turning back, no last minute save. Tomorrow an angry mob was going to storm my castle and demand my head. I could use magic to wipe out most of them, to prove to the world that wizards were a danger to the world and eradicate all hope and will from every generation to come. I could call down the heavens and rain down fire upon the lot of them, and their bubbles of anti-magic wouldn't stop me from rewriting reality to ensure their doom and the doom of all men who followed them. But eventually there'd be more. They'd fight harder. Men would call me a tyrant and they'd find newer and cleverer ways of trying to take down not just me, but all gods and wizards. We could fight them off, squish them like insects, think of them as mere pests to be put in their place. What, then, of the fate of humanity, elf-kind, and all dwarven brethren? What of the faeries and the hobgoblins and all the rest? What would be the point of sentience if we shrugged them off? How soon would they find a way, or would we find ourselves betrayed from within, in a second arcane war? If I fought the rebels off tomorrow, if I dominated the battlefield in a show of glory, I could win. I could triumph for eternity at the expense of erasing the entire point of life and free will. Or, tomorrow, I could give up everything and walk away. I'd be branded a coward. I'd be called weak. All of us would, and we'd be hunted down and eventually, some mere human would get lucky and bring about yet another wizard's death.

It's Christmas morning, before sunrise, and many families have left their decorative lights on all night, just for this night. I'm looking around, childlike, as I gaze at the beauty around us. Some people really do go all out to celebrate. There aren't any displays with music going at this time of morning, and the luminarias are all long burned out, but I don't care. I'm still swept up in the joy of seeing it all. Light from darkness. I love Christmas so much. I always have. I look around in awe at palm trees towering over every home in view, some of them covered in colorful bulbs from top to root. The passion people have for decorating and celebrating always fills me with wonder.
