Always amuses me that other cultures react in horror to this, an outstanding lunchtime staple.

The NHS only continues to function because of the love and care of immigrants.
Anyway, rant over. It's such a small thing where I'm involved but it made me have thoughts (9/9)

We have nowhere near enough GPs and instead of investing in the service, trying to attract people here and paying doctors enough that they want to stay in the country we have people marching in the streets rallying against the very people who are the only reason the NHS functions at all. (8/9)

Who might have a waiting list short enough that you're seen in good time. The whole system is based on luck now, not need. (7/9)

It's been underfunded to such a degree that we're already operating under a chance based system if you can't afford to go private. Call early enough and you might get a GP appointment. Who might have time to see you face to face. Who might be able to refer you to a specialist. (6/9)

Now I need a fit note for work - this is a required document. There's no option for me not to get one. But this morning really drove home to me that in the UK free for all healthcare is basically dead (5/9)

I was told to phone back tomorrow "as close to 0830 as possible" to try and get an appointment. I asked if I could book an appointment now for tomorrow and was told no (to be fair I was fully expecting that answer). The receptionist was nothing but lovely and pleasant with me. (4/9)

It took half an hour for the staff at the surgery to work through the queue to get to me. I told them why I was calling and that I needed a fit note. They said that I would need to talk to the GP for that and that they had no more appointments today and there was nothing they could do. (3/9)
