I’m crocheting shawls mostly and even if I follow the pattern and a hook size, they still need to be stretched when wet to show the full shape. It’s their nature.❤️ But switching to more comfortable yarn/hook is a good way too. I don’t think you made any mistakes on the first work. :)

Both looks great! Have you tried blocking them? Sometimes they need a bit of stretch while being wet to get in shape. But as long as new hook and new yarn work better for you, that’s the best!
