I finally got a flash for macro photography! Haven't had time to use it a whole lot (a lot of rain and busy with work) but I did get these shots when visiting my grandfather.

Flowers are finally coming out for springtime!
These are unedited JPGs from my camera - I've been experimenting with this kind of photography a lot more this year, because I want to improve my basic skills - rather than relying on editing to fix mistakes or make improvements.

I've always found getting the colours right in nighttime shots pretty difficult. Every light source is a slightly different colour, so sometimes there's no obvious way to balance them out.

Washed up boat in English Bay.
This is a pretty common sight on the beaches around here after winter storms, and it's always kind of sad to see - but makes for some unique photos at least.

This is a beetle in the genus Ellychnia, which is actually a kind of firefly - but since they're diurnal instead of nocturnal, they don't need to glow like other fireflies. Thanks @origamiseagull.bsky.social for finding and helping ID this!

Flat backed millipede and springtail in Stanley Park!
Getting the millipede while it was sitting still was probably the most difficult part of this - it kept running around and making my photos blurry.

Coming from Vancouver with our functional but very limited couple of Skytrain lines, seeing an actually-complete subway network for the first time was an eye-opening experience.

Wooden dragon head!
This was my first real project learning to use ZBrush and Substance Painter, from a few years ago. These are re-renders - I re-did the materials for the eyes, improved the lighting, and edited them in Lightroom.

It's not exactly mushroom right now, but I was able to find these small ones in Stanley Park anyway.

Another entry in my slightly surreal infrared photography series.
Believe it or not, this tank is not actually bright pink - but shooting without the infrared-blocking filter that most cameras have built in tends to yield unexpected results!
