I don't know what "gentle parenting" says to do in such a situation, but what I learned is that I can't just tell them not to do a thing - I have to physically stop them from doing it, because they're compulsive, self-destructive, and have zero self-control. Just how it is 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm not sure how you're defining intelligence.
You can make the tool do things that would require intelligence in a person, and that can be useful.
But it won't be "alive", and won't be able to do things that worms do, or butterflies, or any creature that isn't necessarily intelligent but is living.

It is always assumed that "therapy" can only make things better, but I've heard of too many cases (anecdotally) where it made things worse. I think it's worth drawing attention to.

That's why I still use Facebook more than the alternatives - local groups for local content.

(BTW that's a very short power outage, and I hope you got it back even earlier than the predicted time. We decided to get a generator after a 12+ hour outage on a cold day.)

I like your framework, I see how it's useful.
Your point here reminded me of this study I saw last week: www.nytimes.com/2024/11/17/h...
I'm curious where that would fit within the framework (like, the human is still in charge, but should learn to use the tool better? Or something else because ego?)
A.I. Chatbots Defeated Doctors at Diagnosing Illness
A small study found ChatGPT outdid human physicians when assessing medical case histories, even when those doctors were using a chatbot.

Another way to put this is, I found that when I read people that I generally agree with, my contrarian nature can't help but finding the flaws in their thinking, which shows me the flaws in my thinking as well. I almost never get that from reading people that I disagree with, because contrarian... 🤷🏻‍♀️

You might find that you can do that with people that you *almost* agree with. Operating from similar assumptions and reaching somewhat different conclusions is often more interesting than arguing with people with whom you have very little common ground to begin with.

Once I realized that there's very little actually gained (for anybody) from those fights, I started avoiding anything that might provoke them.
Engaging with people who are reasonable and know what they're talking about is a lot more constructive for everybody... Even though there's less of it.

💡 Tip: You can set your website as your username on Bluesky!

This is one form of self-verification, and we especially encourage official organizations and brands to do this! Examples include @npr.org @react.dev @duolingobrasil.com.br.

There's still a chronological feed option, they just hid it, and on web browser they made it load more slowly (deliberately I'm sure).
On desktop this gets you chronological feed: facebook.com/?sk=h_chr
On web browser it's in "Feeds" under the menu.
I don't use the app so don't know about it.
