Relatively new to the NFL, but I recognise Brady, Brees, Cousins, Purdy. Pretty sure there’s also Lamar Jackson and Drake May. Dunno who the Chargers #17 is - doesn’t look like Herbert to me. Nor do I recognise the Falcons #2

I think those things can sometimes serve as an off stage back story type thing that can tell you more about your characters are, or maybe even who they are not. Not necessarily wasted effort although definitely frustrating.

The last verse I always get a little off, but here goes

Fire on the mountain shall find the harp of gold
Played to wake the Sleepers, oldest of the old
Power from the green witch, deep beneath the sea
All shall find the Light at last; silver on the tree

It’s got such a beautiful cadence and rhythm that makes it easy to memorise:

Iron for the birthday, bronze carried long
Wood from the burning, stone out of song
Fire in the candle ring, water from the thaw
Six signs the circle and the grail gone before

Big tick for #1 and #4! Have never re-read #2 - I was just shatteringly disappointed at (a) the ending and (b) the device used to re-extend the prophecy to justify the next series, which I never finished. And while I adore the Silmarillion and LotR, #3 is a bit “meh” to me

“Silver on the Tree” is my favourite book in that series! So good!

Agreed. I feel the same way about Aliens, which shares many of the same great aspects esp. Sigourney Weaver(!)

While elves can be killed because they have bodies, their spirits cannot. They return to the halls of Mandos where they could be re-embodied, if deemed appropriate by Námo. I love the mystery of men's spirit's travelling beyond the circles of the world - a great adventure awaits.

I think that might have just been the straw that broke the camel's back - this Administration has previously disclosed intelligence that puts those who shared it with us at risk and is politicizing its institutions: firing competent people and installing partisan hacks and grifters.

I guess that's half way between the usual estimates - the films have Barad-dûr closer to the top end at about 4,500 ft www.reddit.com/r/lotr/comme...

Went yesterday. Amazing how the Zipcoaster is all just gravity. Had to tap out at the first exit on the red course - my arms got all wobbly and felt a bit light headed - 30 degrees at noon probably didn’t help

That what I thought it was describing - people running in formerly Liberal seats that would have had more in common with them policy wise except for this big glaring climate change issue. And their attitude towards women. Many of them did use the colour in their campaigning last election.

The thing that surprises me most about this is how they don’t understand that this is electoral suicide in Australia. They’ve completely misunderstood the reasons why Australia said ‘No’ to the Voice and our electoral systems are much stronger than those in the US

I think it’s a useful shorthand that doesn’t have any pejorative undertones - but I haven’t read or watched any Murdoch media in years.

I also suspect that the remodelling of bowling actions to prevent injury and support sustainability and accuracy is one of the reasons we don't see fast bowlers hit 150 kph any more. Has there been anyone since Brett Lee and Shoiab Akhtar apart from Shaun Tait, the poster boy for accuracy issues?
November 14, 2025 at 5:27 AM
Sure, but you would hardly call Khan or Sobers top order batters, though. Kallis batted at #3 most of the time.
November 14, 2025 at 5:23 AM
Excellent batter and bowler, but I don't think anyone would have called him "fast" - he was definitely more a swing / seam type bowler. Not that the initial post had the qualification of "fast", that seems to be something you introduced into the discussion...

“Created” is a bit of a stretch - they were already existing Maiar that he corrupted. It would be safe to say that most were killed in the War of Wrath at the end of the First Age
