We enjoyed our cruise of the 30,000 islands in Georgian Bay aboard the Island Queen on Sept. 29, 2025.
The island Queen sailing out of Parry Sound is Canada's largest cruise ship. The 30,000 islands is the world's largest freshwater archipelago.

Puffin Pics I took in Elliston, Newfoundland, in Aug. 2025.
One of our fellow trekkers over the rocky outcroppings to see the puffins said, "Boy, it's some hot". It was above 30 °C.

We had a whale of a time whale watching off Twillingate, Newfoundland this past Aug. 1st photo is of a female whale & her male calf. The tour boat captain said she was a 40 foot, 40 ton humpback. She breached 3 times, the 3rd time close to the boat.

Alan Doyle has been busy. He is starring in a play he co-wrote called Tell Tale Harbour at the Royal Alex. Theatre in Toronto from Sept. 23-Nov.2, 2025. He is also hosting a book launch for his new book, "The Smiling Land," in Toronto on November 24.

Photo. I took of Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, on Aug. 16, 2025. Petty Harbour is the home of Alan Doyle, former frontman of the band ."Great Big Sea." On Aug 21, two Bluefin tuna over 600 lbs. each were caught off Petty Harbour.

This weekend marks the 45th anniversary of the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope. His run ended east of Thunder Bay

Moi in front of the historic Cape Bonavista Lighthouse in Newfoundland on Aug. 13, 2025. Getting there is part of the adventure, as some of the curving, hilly roads are not marked & cell phone connectivity is spotty or nonexistent throughout Newfoundland.

A mth. ago, we were cruising on the Western Brook Pond freshwater fjord in Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland.
It was awesome to be surrounded by 2,000 ft. cliffs plunging into water 200 to 300 ft. deep.

30 years ago this week, My Bro. a cousin & I attended Rock Fest '95 in Wisconsin. We were caught in a downburst, & my Bro's old canvas tent, held together by determination & duct tape, was 1 of the only tents left standing.

On a hot July 13 midday in the early 90s , I caught a 7lb.+ pickerel/walleye at Hazelwood Lake near Thunder Bay. We didn't have a camera when we were on the lake, so my wife took this photo. when we came back home.

Several CBC radio stations in Ontario have mentioned that this is now peak turtle nesting season. Yesterday, the CBC Radio 1 Thunder Bay host, Mary-Jean Cormier, asked for turtle stories.

Haven't had fresh pickerel (actually it's walleye) for many years since we lived in Thunder Bay & caught walleye from Hazelwood Lake- 40 minutes from lake to plate at our place.

Last Tues. we went to Parry Sound. Never been there before. Reminded us of Kenora. Air was pure & clean off Parry Sound & Georgian Bay. Ate fresh pan seared pickeral, beans, slaw & chips at Henry's Fish Restaurant by the Town Dock. They serve the excellent local water w/out asking.

Lilacs in our hood peaked a few days ago, which is late for the Barrie area. We had large lilac bushes in front of our house where I grew up in Thunder Bay that didn't flower until the end of June, signalling the beginning of summer. Photos are of current lilacs.

My wife and I happened to be in San Francisco when Brian Wilson was signing his 1991 memoir "Wouldn't It Be Nice. " He was a troubled, creative musical genius. RIP Brian Wilson.

The pic. I took of the Brixton Bomb protest march had a banner designed by Ed Hall, who has worked with Turner prize winning artist Jeremy Deller. I emailed Mr. Hall last week & updated my story above. Mr. Hall is now decorating Trafalgar Square in honour of the 200th yr. of The National Gallery.

We had a dalliance with dahlias as my wife spotted the flowers where we usually buy our plants around the Victoria Day wk. end. We had never seen them sold there before.
