Because in order for someone to live that long back then, it suggests people had to be willing to take care of them, and even with the hardships that era presented they still found time.

I think there's pretty good evidence that shows compassion is a big part of human nature. For one we are a social species, and kindness generally seems to take us farther when it comes to making a society, but there's also examples in history that show acts of human empathy and compassion. 1/2
