It’s…been a few years but it still feels wrong to call him my ex. We never broke up, so… I guess I’ll start there, then. There really isn’t anywhere else. *The sound of shuffling. She hadn’t been properly facing him until now. Her voice changes a bit, not unlike the Archivist’s when he reads a statement. She is under the influence of The Eye properly now. The information flows like water.* Have you ever drowned, Archivist? Like, a proper drowning. No land for miles, kind of thing? The kind of incident where you’ve run out of air and your nose is plugged and your mouth is open but there will never be any air inside of you again? And y’know, thats not true. Did you know that? There’s actually still a billion little bubbles that fill you up when you drown. It’s probably why it’s so painful. The pull of water is nothing like the pull of air. It’s painful in a…specific way. It’s what got me into smoking, honestly. I think my body or my mind, maybe, started to miss the sensation of something rushing inside and between all of my…well, the parts of me that can’t be touched by anything except water and air, I guess. As you’ve probably, guessed, I have a lot of experience with drowning. Before and after. Well, kind of, after. I…am deeply familiar with the feeling of holding your breath and failing. I lived in Oregon for most of my life, so I’m well-acquainted with water, not to mention I loved surfing before and definitely still love it now- so. Another pause. She sighs.
