“Truth uncompromisingly told will always have its ragged edges…“
That not one reporter ever asked Vance directly how he could square his comments about Ohioan Haitians eating their neighbors’ cats & dogs w/ what he wrote about on the influence of philosopher Rene Girard and his conversion to Catholicism in his essay, "How I Joined the Resistance" was inexcusable.

Vance’s deep ties to Peter Thiel and Big Tech are extraordinarily problematic.

He's half Trump's age, but twice as smart, and, most importantly, he's 100x more disciplined.
That one has to ask the following question should be telling enough:
Is it more unsettling to the nation that Trump finishes out his term or if Vance assumes the seat at some point in the next 3 years?

He, like his mentor, Peter Thiel, weaponize their knowledge and understanding of Rene Girard’s philosophy of the scapegoating mechanism and mimetic rivalry. That Thiel once studied at the feet of Girard is treachery.

I'm saying... I'll hurt you if you stay.”

Fueled by Drugs, Drink and Talent would be a good subtitle for more than a few artists‘ biographies, I imagine.

Oh wow I didn’t know Fassbinder was that prolific. Didn’t he die quite young?
As for Yates’ Breaking Away, there’s a I Vitelloni feel to its focus on a group of late teen/early 20s friends on the cusp of going their separate ways. Early Dennis Quaid role.

I’m pretty light when it comes to Fassbinder but I have seen that one and was intrigued. Tarkovsky’s Stalker and Herzog’s Nosferstu have becomes personal faves, and Peter Yates‘ Breaking Away remains an eminently enjoyable film for me.

Gosh, 1979 was a great year for movies.

I agree with that assessment. And good call on the photography. Fosse was an interesting cat. I still think his All That Jazz has one of the most spectacular ending sequences I’ve ever got caught up in.

I've always retained a soft spot in my film heart for Lenny. Largely because of Valerie Perrine's Honey Bruce whom I found to be, in my young teenager mind, to be inexpressibly poignant.
