I personally recommend any musician who wants to better understand part writing and 4-part writing should purchase J. S. Bach's 2-volume The Well-Tempered Clavier and study the fugues with guidance. Sometimes the ranges go into the extremes, the fugues give a good idea on the placement of voices.
