There's only like four games that let you romance custom characters
- The Sims
- Divinity Original Sin (1)
- Skyrim w/ mods
- Rimworld w/ mods

This is an untapped market. People love making their OCs kiss, and games that let you do this are hits waiting to happen.

Lunatic Dawn, the game I played last night, got really close. You can make your own custom character and all your party members are romanceable, but the party members are all procgen. You can't make any additional characters beyond your own.

Game's on Steam. Japanese only but there's a fan patch for English.

If you're a special freak, there's an abandonware version called The Book of Futures, which requires a few more steps to get working but is technically free.

If you don't have the money to travel you can go on-foot, which reduces your HP and can literally kill you from exhaustion. This is a game for lunatics, hence the name.

Can't believe the studio that remade Dragon Quest 1-3 made a procgen life sim sandbox RPG a whole year before Bethesda made Elder Scrolls Arena. This game rules.

It's the same logic as "You control the buttons you press." You may not want to use a parry or an ice blast, but it's always gonna be a button on your controller, and the game's gonna be balanced around the use of those abilities buttons whether you want to or not. Games aren't that modular.

"Just turn it off" isn't really a good solution. Games are fundamentally built around the features they include, and there's no guarantee a game will have design that compensates for having a feature removed. Firewatch starts with it turned on by default, so it clearly wants you to use them.

There's a point in Firewatch where you get very clear instructions to look at a chart of trees and the map in your tower for where those trees grow so you can find your way to a meeting place... and then the game just puts an objective marker there.

like I love XIV but the classes there have distinct designs & weapons exclusive to them. Final Fantasy classes pre-XIV are a lot more freeform & varied and I want more artwork of those.
