This clip is perfect to show the difference between a beaver's hands and feet. Their hands are very dexterous, and their webbed feet are tailor made for spending most of their time in the water. But on dry land those webbed back feet put them at risk of predation because they can't move very fast.

Not often seen, but we do have a local population of porcupines within the Lake Tahoe Basin.

As a semi-aquatic species beavers spend most of their time in the water. Because beavers have webbed back feet they aren't very speedy on dry land, which makes them VERY open to being taken by predators like bears, coyotes, bobcats, or even mountain lions.

"What's new, Pussycat?
Whoa, whoa
What's new, Pussycat?
Whoa, whoa" (Yes, I'm barely old enough to remember that song when it came out in 1965. Lol!)
I set this camera up to capture viddeos of beavers, but instead I got a mountain lion that's probably STALKING the beavers!

This Tahoe coyote reacts, but doesn't reply to another coyote vocalizing in the distance.

The cover art for this big male black bear's upcoming album release titled "Bear On The Run".
All joking aside, this super sized male has been VERY actively feeding throughout the winter on unsecured trash. Every year there are a handful of bears that continue to actively feed in winter.

Here is an oldie but a goodie from October of 2021.
Coyotes and badgers working together to hunt rodents is actually a thing, and is known as mutualism.
