And instead of just some filler lyrics and chords, and maybe the first hints of a melody...I have the structure and the melody pretty locked, as well as a bridge and also refined the lyrics and wrote the piano part and...

Well, I still want to work on it more. So maybe I'll record something tonight

Idk who tf would say this without being an actual clown. Everyone uses reference. Sometimes the reference is in your memory BUT ITS STILL A REFERENCE.

Tbf cats exist in a superposition at all times, so you can only know what a cat looks like when you observe it and collapse the wavefunction into something real

But like, you can't swindle people into giving you lots of money for a poorly functioning generalist "fix everything" tool without getting free labor. Honestly, you can't realistically do it long term even with free labor, but they're in it for the short term

What they mean is "it's not profitable," because there are absolutely ways to train AI on things that are paid for and appropriate...you just end up with specialized tools that perform limited functions well, which is the primary way AI was used *before* generative models (and is a good thing!)

I think this misses the point. I'd say AI bros *do* have artistic whimsy (bc everyone does), but they've stamped it down so much that it's become something spiteful and destructive. Their impulses come from the same root, but have been perverted by society's devaluing of art and artists

Definitely this. I know I'll say "sketch" when I don't have another word on hand to call something. Sorta like default "if it doesn't fit into any other category"

Yeah, folks often seem to feel like it's some sort of lofty thing. But style is just "the bits and bobs you tend to do." Some of it's mechanics of your body, some of it's what you like, and if you've been doing art long enough, some of it might even be intentional!

It's really easy to bemoan something being derivative, but I really think more folks should stop worrying over it. Derivative is neutral. There are great things that are derivative, and also poor things. So much depends on the whole that no one thing will make or break it.
